Straight-sided Arretine Pottery DishCirca 1st-2nd Century AD Diameter: 4.7 in. (12cm) Description: Utilitarian Arretine saucer size straight sided dish with vertical rim formed of pale orange clay enhanced with overall brick red wash. The dish is unadorned except for a carinated band around the exterior lower portion of the bowl and a band in raised relief around the outer surface on the interior of the bowl. Set on a raised ring base. From the Eastern Roman Empire. Condition: Intact with a few minor surface chips; lightly encrusted. Provenance: Ex-UK property acquired on the London art market in 1993.
