Fine Egyptian Terracotta "Water" JarCirca 3000 BC (Naqada III - Early Dynastic Period)
Description: Tall, unglazed salmon color pottery jar having a tapered body with flat bottom and two low relief "snake-like" crimpled handles on each side. The body of the jar is decorated overall with horizontal friezes of "water lines"; the frieze at the top and bottom consisting of three lines each and the middle frieze consisting of five lines each. The water lines are painted in the wavy red-brown linear pattern typical of this period. An early and rare intact example. Height: 7 in. (17.5 cm) Condition: Intact with two minor rim chips and some normal surface wear. Provenance: Formerly in a private CA collection, ex-San Diego collection, acquired 1950-1960.
