Bronze Buckle with Swan, ex.: Mildenberg Collection

Circa 2nd-3rd Century AD   

Description:  Oval bronze buckle delicately incised with a swan with bowed head.  The bird is intricately detailed with feathers, round eye and beak and is encompassed within a double punched border.  The buckle is pierces at either end with a riveted stud in the back and remains of two hooks.  Delightful example from the Mildenberg Collection.

Length:  1.5 in. (3.8 cm) 

Condition:  Intact as shown. 

Provenance:  Formerly in the Leo Mildenberg Collection of Animals in Ancient Art.
