Bronze Provincial DeityCirca 2nd-4th Century AD
Description: Delightful bronze deity modeled in the manner of Jupiter. The slender figure is naked with deep lines of incision indicating musculature. He has a long straight bowed legs with cursorily rendered feet. His thin arms are exaggerated in length, one held above his head, probably once having held Jupiter's traditional attribute, the lightening bolt. The deity's lively face has deep set eyes with pupils indicated, rounded Roman nose and upturned mouth. Atop his brow is a thick head of hair indicated with deep lines of incision complimented by a thick full beard. The back side is left nearly plain except his cropped hair. Nice example of a provincial Roman bronze. An extraordinary work of provincial Roman art! Height: 2.75 in. (7 cm) Condition: Intact as shown. Nice smooth patina and crisp detail.
