New, Full-Color Catalogue XVI AvailableFragments of Time is pleased to announce the availability of its Fall 2000 catalogue, Art from the Ancient World XVI. The catalogue follows our usual 32-page, all-color format with each object fully researched and accompanied by a museum-style citation.
Highlighting the catalogue is a superb pair of archaic Greek bronze couchant lions dating to the mid-6th century BC. The lions, which are the coverpiece for the catalogue, are nearly identical to an example in the collection of the NY Carlsberg Glyptotek Museum in Copenhagen.
Other highlights include:Egyptian: Extremely fine grey diorite polished bowl dating to 2860-2640 BC, once belonging to Wilhelm Horn (born 1870), an important German collector. Price on request.
Rare wooden canopic jar lid of Imsety sculpted in the Middle Kingdom style with traces of gold gilt (circa 600 BC). $4,450.
Greek: Solid, hand-modeled Boeotian painted terracotta bull figurine (circa 6the Century BC). Delightful! $2,900. Pottery from Sparta (the Laconian region of Greece) is rare. We are featuring TWO objects, including a wonderfully potted kylix (drinking vessel) with a series of dolphins painted in red on the inside of the cup. The interior decoration creates the effect of dolphins swimming in the owner's beverage! Terracotta figurine of an actor from the Greek theatre, dating to the 4th Century BC! Rare and only $1,100.
A fine selection of terracottas and fine pottery vessels from the Greek-settled areas of Southern Italy, including a charming pair of Canosan dolphins with vivid color remaining!
Roman: Superbly detailed solid silver eagle, 2nd-3rd Century AD. A work of silverworking art! $3,900.
Bronze figures of several deities: Mithras (RARE); Fortuna, Herakles, Mars (complete with plumed helmet intact).
Several attractive glass objects in all price ranges, including a very large Roman round plate dating to the 4th Century AD.
Every object is museum-quality and is backed by our lifetime guarantee.
