Bronze Ring and Silvered Coin Found Together

Circa 3rd-6th Century AD    

Description:  Interested group of two roman objects said to have been found together. The ring hoop is constructed from twisted bronze with a plain, diamond-shaped bezel.  The ring is silvered with a fair amount of the silvering remaining.  The coin is a silvered 'barbarous radiate' antoninianus of the emperor Aurelian, who ruled from 270-275 AD.  Obverse: IMP.AVRELIANVS.AVG depicting Aurelian's crowned head in profile facing right.  Reverse: ORIENS AVG depicting Sol advancing right holding laurel branch and bow, and treading down the enemy.    

Ring Size:  7.5 (17.7 mm in diameter)

Condition:  Intact as shown, good silvering remaining on both the ring and the coin. Coin is about EF condition. 

Provenance:  Formerly a West Coast (USA) property; and prior to that ex-Bonhams, London.
