2,000 Year Old Roman Face Cream Found in LondonArchaeology performed in an area that is being cleared for a supermarket in London has yielded a remarkable find. A small round lidded tin, purposefully hidden in a drain more than 20 centuries ago, was found in pristine condition and contains a white gooey substance thought by scientists to be ancient Roman cosmetic moisturizing cream. A scientific analysis of the material is now underway. The container not only is about half-full of the ancient substance, but preserved the marks left by ancient fingerprints. The tin was found in the ruins of an important Romano-Celtic religious site in theSouthwark section of London. Click here for an image of the tin and accompanying story in the UK's Daily Telegraph.
