Cypriot Black-on-Red Miniature JugletCirca 750-600 BC
Description: A lovely and exceptionally well provenanced black-on-red ware miniature juglet. The vessel has a globular body with flat bottom and slender neck topped with a round funnel-shaped mouth with collar halfway up the neck. A delicate round-in-section handle with black slip runs from the collar of the neck to the shoulder. The attractive red surface is decorated with three pairs of concentric circles on the shoulder and horizontal bands encircling the belly, neck and rim. Height: 2.75 in. (6.8 cm) Condition: Intact. Provenance: Purchased from the Metropolitan Museum in 1925, deaccessioned as a duplicate. Ex: Cesnola Collection. The number 250 on the shoulder of the vessel. A copy of the 1925 receipt of purchase and Museum Bulletin from the Metropolitan Museum are included.
