Cypriot Pinched Spout Jug, ex-Collection D. Morris

Circa 750-475 BC

Description:  Attractive well provenanced bichrome ware jug with neatly pinched pouring spout and a single strap handle.  The rounded body sits atop a low flat ring base.  Formed of slightly coarse buff clay, the vessel is enhanced with brown and red horizontal stripes of varying widths across the body.  Two additional brown stripes across the tall slender neck.  A row of rays encircle the shoulder.

Height:  5 in. (12.5 cm)

Condition:  Intact.

Provenance:  Formerly in the renowned Desmond Morris Collection.  Morris began collecting in 1967 and built what has been described as the finest collection of Cypriot antiquities outside of Cyprus.  Many items from this collection were published in 1985.
