Cypriot White Painted Ware Vessel LidCirca 950-750 BC
Description: Scarce white painted ware pottery lid from the Cypro-Geometric Period. Made from a smooth dense beige clay covered with white slip and decorated on both sides with radiating concentric circles of varying widths applied in umber. Hollow flared handle on top. Diameter: 4.2 in. (10.5 cm) Condition: Intact as shown with some surface chips from the rim. Provenance: Formerly in the private collection of a war correspondent who collected from the 1940s-80s. Probably ex: Cesnola Collection as well, with a collector's number in blue on the underside: 408, along with the word CYPRUS in black ink. Price: $ 175
