Early Bronze Bow Fibula

Circa 8th-6th Century BC

Description:  An attractive, large bronze bow-shaped fibula.  The arch of the fibula is decorated with two globular mouldings and two disc-shaped mouldings close together.  The large square catchplate, typical to Greek fibulae, is punched on either side with large ovoid inlets.  The top surface of the plate is attached to the bow with two small rivets and is incised with two repeating downward-pointing triangles.

Height:  2.25 in. (5.5 cm)
Length:  3.25 in. (8.4 cm)

Condition: Intact with smooth dark patina.

Provenance:  Formerly a German property.
