Early Native Italian "Boat" Fibula

Circa 8th-7th Century BC

 

Description:  This popular type of late Bronze Age brooch is of single piece construction with a wide boat-shaped bow, double spring coil, catchplate and pin.  Typical of the type, the bow id hollowed and etched on the front with two thin grooves.

Length:  2 in. (5 cm)

Condition: The pin is now broken.

Provenance:  Formerly in the collection of important European collector/dealer Heidi Vollmoeller, acquired in 1978.
