The Egyptians remain one of the most compelling and mysterious of the ancient Western cultures. Starting with the 'Pre-Dynastic Period' around 4000 BC, Egyptian civilization stretches across several millennia in a contiguous religious and cultural tradition.  Surrounded by the natural beauty and fertile soils of the Nile, the Egyptians possessed fervent beliefs about the afterworld which are wonderfully expressed in their art, literature, funerary practices, and architecture. 

While we come to know the ancient Egyptians through the legacies of great rulers such as Akhenaten, Tutankhamun, Ramesses, and  Cleopatra, we can also grow closer to them through the range of artifacts that they have left us.
