Report: Ancient Greek City of Helike Discovered

Scientists are reporting the discovery of what is believed to be an important ancient Greek city called Helike that disappeared in 373 BC after a devastating earthquake and subsequent tidal wave.

According to reports in The London Times and Fox News, Greek and American archaeologists who have been searching for the ancient site for 12 years refocused their efforts on a land-based rather than sea-based search. Using sophisticated radar equipment, they pinpointed an area near the modern city of Aigion, 45 miles northwest of Corinth.

Early investigation has confirmed signs of dense habitation located beneath a deep layer of silted mud and shells.
