Hellenistic Oil LampsCirca 4th-3rd Century BC
Description: Two wheel-made terracotta oil lamps of globular form with long tapered nozzles, lug handle on one side and offset ring base. Item a) is rounded on top with a small central filling hole and rounded nozzle. Made from orange terracotta with remains of black gloss slip. Item b) has a smaller body with a large tube-like filling hole that protrudes upward from the body. A slender gently squared nozzle. Formed of beige clay enhanced with reddish brown slip. Length of both: 3.4 in. (8.5 cm) Condition: Both lamps are intact. Provenance: Formerly in a private collection acquired primarily in London in the 1970s.
