Two Important Discoveries at Karnak and Saqqara

Two new important discoveries at sites in Karnak and Saqqara are yielding new pieces to the puzzle of Egyptian history.

In Karnak, an American archaeological team searching for the foundation of the portico of Amenhotep II uncovered several building structures that span more than 2,000 years of Egyptian history. More significantly, the oldest of the finds pre-dates any other known structures in Karnak.

In Saqqara, an Egyptian team working east of the Valley Temple of Unas uncovered a finely sculpted limestone head of a pharaoh. Turns out the head was on Unas himself and fits perfectly on a previously-discovered headless sphinx found in the area some three years ago.

Details on both discoveries available by clicking Karnak and Saqqara.
