Miniature Xenon Sessile Kantharoi

Circa Mid 4th Century BC 

Description:  Two miniature sessile kantharoi in classic Xenon fashion.  Each has a deep, straight-sided body, flaring rim, two vertical strap handles and disc foot.  Item a) is decorated on one side with a bordered scroll pattern and a single upright palmette on the other.  Item b) is decorated with bordered repeating chevrons on one side and egg-and-dart pattern on the other.

Height: a):  2 in. (5 cm)

  1.6 in. (4.1 cm)

Condition:  Both vessels are intact.  Item a) has a small chip from the foot as visible in photo.

Provenance:  Both were formerly in a private British collection.
