Fragments of Time Announces Availability of Catalogue XXIV

The Fall 2002 catalogue of fine ancient art from Fragments of Time,
Inc. has been published and mailed to all current subscribers and clients. The
high-quality, full-color catalogue follows the usual 32-page format with each
item fully described and illustrated. Nearly 70 individual objects ranging from
less than $100 to $10,000 are featured. "In addition to their primary
purpose of highlighting an exciting variety of objects from our ever-changing
inventory, our catalogues continue their tradition of being important reference
works for collectors and scholars worldwide," said John Ambrose, Director
and Founder of Fragments of Time, Inc. Fragments of Time's catalogues
are among only a handful produced by the world's top dealers that publish fixed
prices with every object. The clearly published fixed price approach
provides collectors an important benchmark for the true market value of
antiquities unlike auctions and buy-or-bid sales tend to obscure the true market
value of objects. "Interest in Catalogue XXIV has been extremely high
with several objects acquired by leading museums in the first days following the
catalogue's release," said Ambrose. Several private collections acquired
by Fragments of Time during the summer months highlight Catalogue XXIV.
These include an Egyptian collection assembled primarily in the 1930s by a New
York City author and collector who traveled extensively to Palestine and Egypt.
The collection passed by descent to his son, a New England resident.
Objects offered from this collection include an Egyptian woven basket and lid, a
large bronze statue of the deity Neith, and several small bronze statuettes and
faience amulets. Greek antiquities collectors will not be disappointed.
Highlights include a lively terracotta Middle Kingdom actor, a co-joined
terracotta Eros and Psyche, a spectacular Gnathian cup with rare 'xylophone'
symbol, and a fine kylix drinking cup from Sparta decorated inside with four
dolphins. A 5th Century Romano-Christian lamp featuring a rare Dendrite scene,
the catalogue's cover lot, highlights the Roman section. Also of note are
several large Roman pottery cooking vessels, a wonderful provincial marble
relief depicting the woodland deity Silvanus and his dog, an intact glass grape
flask, a detailed bronze eagle and snake, and several fine silver objects. "From
cylinder seals to important published pottery vessels; and from early Geometric
Greek bronzes to a 12-13th Century Islamic lamp, our Fall catalogue provides
something for just about every taste and budget," said
Ambrose.
