Lapis Lazuli Achaemenid Bull AmuletCirca 6th-5th Century BC
Description: The upper torso of a bull in amuletic form made from lapis-lazuli. The creature’s face is cursorily rendered with two socketed eyes once inlaid with a gemstone (now lost), rounded snout and two short horns atop the head (one now missing). The shoulders and upper back are apparent. Conjoined forelegs. Amulets of this sort were usually pierced through the center and may explain the fragmentary nature of this example. Attractive.
