Bronze Age Cup from Jericho

Circa 2000-1000 BC

 

Description:  Deep-bowled cup with broad mouth and slightly everted rim. The bowl is hand-modeled from coarsely grained orange-pink terracotta. A round-in-section handle loops from the brim of the juglet to the shoulder. Beneath the rim on the opposite side of the handle are two small clay vertical protrusions. Rounded base. Attractive early Bronze Age vessel, said to have been found at Jericho. The Middle Bronze Age Period roughly coincides with the period of Exodus.

Height:  2.5 in (6.4 cm) 

Condition:  Intact with a stable age fissure at the rim.

Provenance:  Formerly in a private West Coast collection.
