Rare Knobbed Glass Storage Jar

Circa 4th-5th Century AD    

 

Description:  Attractive, pale-green, mold-blown glass storage jar. The vessel has a broad bulbous body tapered toward the concave foot with a wide sloping shoulder, high wide flaring neck with a folded flange below the rim. The body is covered with mold-blown translucent knobs. Very nice, intact example of this rare form.

Height:  3.6 in. (8.8 cm)

Condition:  Intact. Thick iridescence within the vessel of green, gold, white, purple, silver and blue. 

Provenance:  Formerly in a private English collection assembled starting in the 1960s.
