Dutch Archaeologists Uncover Wooden Roman Ship

Reuters and other news organizations are reporting the discovery of a wonderfully preserved wooden Roman cargo ship in the middle of the town of Woerden, Holland.  The approximately 100-foot long flat-bottomed vessel dates to 100 AD and appears to have been powered by some 12 oarsmen.

Scientists excavating the ship believe the ship's design provides the first proof that the Romans had ships that could navigate upstream against powerful currents to forts in Germany.
