Fine Ribbed, Single-Handled Pottery Jug 

Circa 3rd-4th Century AD    

Description:   Attractive pottery juglet of lightly coarse pinkish-orange clay with a red wash over the upper portion of the vessel. Deeply impressed horizontal grooves encircle the swollen lower body. Set on a raised base ring. The vessel has a pinched spout with strap handle.  From the Holyland region. 

Height:  6 in. (15 cm)

Condition:  Intact.

Provenance:  Formerly in an East Coast private collection.

Reference:  See Roman Pottery in the Royal Ontario Museum by John Hayes, no. 186, for similar jug in the Royal Ontario Museum.
