Snake Amulet

Circa 664-342 BC 

Description:  Turquoise-glazed faience Late Period snake amulet.  The stylized round serpent's head is raised up at an angle from the long tapered body with suspension loop between the head and integral plinth.  Such amulets may have protected against snake bites or were meant to provide cool refreshment to the throat.  Rare.

Length:  1.75 in. (4.4 cm)

Condition:  Intact.

Provenance:  Formerly in a private Paris collection, assembled in the early part of the 20th Century..
