Fine Romano-British Bronze ForcepsCirca 2nd-3rd Century AD
Description: Extremely fine quality example of bronze Romano-British forceps, probably used for military medical use based on sturdy style of craftsmanship and size. The bend at the top is deliberately flattened wile the arms of the forceps have more rounded tops. Thick at the top tapering to slightly pointed ends. Decorated on each side with three incised vertical X pattern separated by horizontal lines. Height: 3.65 in. (9.3 cm) Condition: Intact and sturdy with lovely smooth dark green patina. Provenance: James Sweeney Collection (2000-2008), ex-Fragments of Time, ex-UK private collection. Background: Forceps are found on ancient Roman campsites. They were used, as we use them today, for personal hygiene, medical purposes and even for craft working. Price: SOLD
