Superb New Kingdom Jasper and Carnelian Bead Necklace

Circa 18th-20th Dynasty, 1550-1070 BC 

Description:  Lovely New Kingdom necklace consisting of 31 cornflower pendant beads emblematic of the artistic style of this period. Thirty of the beads are in red jasper, with one in red carnelian. The beads are of varying sizes but placed symmetrically, gradually increasing in size outward from the clasp. Small beads, mostly of jasper with some carnelian, intersperse the cornflower beads.  Restrung with modern clasp. 

Length:  17 in. (42.5 cm)

Condition:  Lovely condition. The base to one tiny and one medium cornflower bead missing, otherwise beads are intact with just inconspicuous minor chips to the base of just a small handful of beads. 

Provenance:  Private New England collection of an Egyptian lady who emigrated to the US in 1956.

Exhibited:  Amarillo Art Center, Texas, October 9, 1974-November 3, 1974, as #24, described: "Red Jasper Necklace with lotus buds, 18th Dynasty, 1500 BC."
