Hellenistic Wreathed Head of a Youth

Circa 3th-2nd Century BC

  

Description: Buff-colored fragmentary terracotta of a male youth with lively expression. His rounded face is modeled with full cheeks, wide eyes and open mouth. In his hair he wears a garland, perhaps signifying he is a consort of Dionysos. Mounted on wooden stand.

Height:  2.6 in. (6.6 cm)

Condition:  Intact as shown.

Provenance:  Acquired in the 1930s by a NY author and collector who traveled extensively to Egypt and Palestine and by descent to a private New England gentleman.
